

That's as close as I can come to trying to replicate your problem. The drive was recognized in Device Manager, Disk Management and File Explorer and could read the media without issue.

I didn't have to do anything, no firmware update, no drivers needed to be installed. I ask because I just grabbed my old LG Slim Portable DVD Writer, Model GP50NB40, USB 2.0, out of my older Windows 7 Pro laptop bag and jacked it into my Windows 10 64 bit Pro computer, inserted a Widows 7 Pro DVD and it worked automatically. What interface cable are you using (USB, Firewire, other)?

When you connect the same external drive to another PC, does it work? Especially Windows 8 or newer OS. I wouldn't think that you would be having trouble with all those media types.
